What are Livestock Guardian Dogs?

Livestock Guardian Dogs (LGD). They are the dogs that guard and protect alpacas from preditors or anyone or anything that would hurt alpacas that they live with. They warn people if someone is entering the alpaca area or is trying to harm the alpacas. They warn us with a bark that is persistent or deeper than a regular friendly bark.

Where we live, preditors or threats to our alpacas are mountain lions, coyotes and wild or loose dogs that are trying to get into the alpaca's areas. Our high fences can help keep preditors out, but the LGD are the ones that maintain the safe environment for everyone.

We totally love and depend on our doggies and take care of them. We feed them well, keep them healthy, and love them. We selected them carefully and love them so much.

When you come and visit us, you'll be greeted by Odin and Thurber and want to love on them. They will want to give you love back. Charlie will stay back and bark and will want "space." He's getting older and finds his job as a "barker" is his happy place. That's what he wants to do now.
